Born and raised in Bogota (Colombia’s capital), Nelson developed a close connection with animals while spending time at his grandmother’s coffee plantation. During his internal medicine residency, he discovered veterinary ophthalmology and decided to pursue the specialty. At the University of Georgia, he completed a two year ophthalmology internship that led to a three year residency at North Carolina State University. Nelson has published a number of papers and articles in both fields of Internal Medicine and Veterinary Ophthalmology.
